In their words
Joan was so much more than a physical therapist to Sarah and to our family. She began working with Sarah when she was about five years old, always making time to see her as she faced increasingly difficult physical challenges. Joan had a special way of making even the hardest exercises manageable and fun. She always brought a smile to Sarah’s face, but her care went far beyond physical therapy. She was constantly thinking about Sarah as a whole person, connecting us with resources for singing therapy, breathing support and even yoga to help with both stretching and emotional well-being.
For many years, Sarah’s ventilator and risk of infection made getting out of the house extremely difficult, so Joan’s willingness to come into our home was invaluable. She not only worked with Sarah, but taught us exercises and activities we could incorporate into everyday life.
